Trudy | A MONTH IN THAILAND
ABOUT ME
My name is Truong Thi Thanh Thao, you can call me Trudy, I am 20 years old and am a third-year student at the Faculty of Social Sciences Education, majoring in History Education at Dong Thap University, Viet Nam. I joined the SEA-TEACHER program batch 9 2023 at Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University, Thailand with a month of internship here (29/08/2023 – 27/09/2023).
I am very happy to participate in this program, especially that I can intern in Thailand at Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University Demonstration School. This will be an extremely valuable opportunity for me to accumulate knowledge and experience in using English in teaching History.
WEEK 1 – MEETING AND VISITING
The first morning I arrived in
Thailand was to practice for the English Camp with English students from Nakhon
Sawan Rajabhat University. We had lunch together, then I was instructed by the
school's lecturer about the schedule for my internship. Thai friends took me on
a tour and introduced me to the buildings in the university.
I was taken by Thai friends to Big
C and V Square shopping areas to buy necessary items.
I ended the first week of the trip
by preparing for a meeting with Thai teachers and a presentation introducing
Vietnam and myself.
WEEK 2 – CLASS OBSERVATION OF
TEACHING ENGLISH AT NAKHON SAWAN RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY DEMONSTRATION SCHOOL
I met the teachers at school and had a close conversation together. The lecturers took me to the restaurant to have lunch together and take souvenir photos.
In the following days, I was scheduled to observe classes at Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University Demonstration School. I was able to participate in the Thai school's classroom and record my observations and evaluations of the class.
Besides observing classes, I was also taken by Thai friends to visit the school library, the school cafeteria, and the school's foreign language information center. You guys have supported me a lot during my time here.
This week I participated in an
English Camp at a high school, a one-day camp with countless interesting
activities. After this camp, I received a certificate prepared by the school.
WEEK 3 – TEACHING IN THE CLASSROOM
Along with the observations of Thai instructors, my first lesson was evaluated and commented on by the teachers to improve. All the comments from the lecturers and teachers helped me a lot in completing the lesson plans for the following lessons.
In the first lesson, I noticed
that there wasn't much connection between the students and me, but in the
following days things gradually got better. We teach and learn together very
happily. The students at the school are very polite and sociable.
WEEK 4 – TEACHING IN THE CLASSROOM
(MONITORING BY MENTOR)
My teachings during this final week of internship were observed by the lecturers and sent to the SEAMEO organization for evaluation. I learned from previous lessons and my lessons became more perfect. I received positive reviews and comments from the instructors.
During my internship in Thailand,
I also encountered some problems. I am very grateful for the dedicated help
from the lecturers and fellow students who supported me. My teaching lessons
are always successful with the help of Thai teachers and friends. After finishing
my internship abroad in Thailand, I hope the program will develop further in
the future.
